Making the Hologram Paint/Medium
So now you want to make a hologram. This is a
pretty advanced thing to do. The holograms that we are going to attempt to
create are not true holograms. A true hologram is one that you would see one
a visa card. It is where from one direction you would see one
picture and the other direction of view you would see another. However,
most REAL IDs do not use real holograms. They use inference 'type'
holograms. This is where you use a special inference paint (of proper color)
and create a design with it using a stencil (instructions for making a stencil
is the next page)!
So what inference paints would I recommend to use to make your HOLOGRAM for your ID. Well I use a brand called Pearl Ex. The brand shown is 674 Interference Gold. Pearl Ex comes in an assortment of colors including interference green, blue, and violet as well as duo-red-blue, due-blue-green and the like. The duo colors reflect one color in one direction, and a different color in the other direction (i.e.. the Georgia drivers license).
Now this is great. But you must remember, pearl ex is a powder, not a paint. So you must purchase a BASE such as liquitex medium base to mix it with. You must have about a 25 to 1 ratio (25 being the BASE). Otherwise the opacity (amount that you can see through the hologram straight on) will be minimal. Both the Base and Pearl Ex are readily available at most good art stores!! So mix only when you are ready to apply them to your id through your stencil
